Faux
A faux finish can be loosely defined as any specialized painted or textured treatment on walls, objects and furniture.
Of course the scope of this definition is infinite, and here we list but a few of the myriad styles of faux finishing that Paul Minnihan Studios has mastered through the years: cheeseclothing, ragging, strie, graining, marbling, stenciling, colorwash, Venetian plaster, textured finishes, layered glazes, hand-painted stripes, gold leaf, tortoise shell, mother of pearl, antique patinas, speckling and painted borders. From marbling walls and columns to stenciling an entire room with a damask pattern, Paul Minnihan Studios is devoted to accomodating its clients.
A faux finish on a wall is oftentimes the final piece of the puzzle for a room's design—a catalyst for all the elements of a room to assemble and work together, akin to actors on a stage.
Murals
The original "virtual reality," murals have been painted by all civilizations since before there were walls to paint on!
Today, in the field of decorative arts, murals are most often used to transform a drab facade in a home or business into a feast for the imagination. They appeal directly to our very human sense of wonder and help transport viewers into whatever environment our clients have dreamed up. Of course, murals can also be used to add simple charm and humor to nearly any space, big or small.
When considering a mural for a home or business, the important thing is to choose a personal subject one really cares about. Here are just a few examples of murals that were previously painted by Paul Minnihan Studios.
